Where to begin? For example, as a former classroom teacher, one of the first things I did was get connected with my students because only after that could we begin the authentic and real process of getting connected to the material. How do you get connected with your students? You open yourself and your world to them. You share your passions, your interests and your world and in doing so, inevitably they’ll find something to grasp onto.
I am fortunate enough to be able to follow many of my passions in this life and the pursuit of history is near the top. In the Appalachian Moments Blog we’ll revisit ideas, concepts, people, places and events. We’ll dig a little deeper and find those precious nuggets that keep us reading along.
Because of the body of work Kelley St. Germain and the team at Germain Media and Appalachian Memory Keepers have created, I get stopped or approached quite often with positive comments about our films, photos and stories. My response is always the same, “Thank you, and I hope the fact that we love what we do shines through.” It’s the truth.
I love the researching, the writing and the presentation of history and being part of that connection. The connection to our past…and who we were as a culture and society that has shaped who we are today…a connection that is so important as we accelerate into the future of this technology-driven world.
