Become an Author-in-Residence with AMK
Do you have a heart for Appalachia and a story to tell?
Our Author-in-Residence (AiR) Program is your chance to share the voices, memories, and experiences of this remarkable region—whether drawn from your own life, your imagination, or generations of mountain wisdom passed down through time.
Each quarter, Appalachian Memory Keepers selects up to two authors—published or unpublished—to join our AiR Program. We welcome storytellers of all backgrounds who are passionate about capturing the culture, history, and soul of Appalachia.
What’s involved?
Selected authors receive a $250 stipend and are asked to contribute 10 original, unpublished stories (minimum 200 words each), along with at least one copyright-free photo per story. Submissions can be fiction or nonfiction, as long as they connect to Appalachian themes. Stories are featured on our website and across our social media platforms, reaching a growing audience who cherish and celebrate mountain heritage.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and all decisions are made by our Board of Directors. You’ll be notified of your status within 4 weeks of submitting a complete application and required materials.
